John Aaron Thacker, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at his home in Middlesboro, Kentucky. He was born on December 26, 1943, in Middlesboro, KY, to the late Roy Howard Thacker and Ethel Mamie (Smith) Thacker.
John played football at Middlesboro High School and graduated with the class of 1962. Afterwards, he attended Wright Junior College in Chicago, Illinois but left his studies to enlist in the United States Army. There he served three years as a helicopter mechanic mainly stationed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. John returned to Middlesboro to reside after his service was complete.
He was a longtime ham radio operator and electronics enthusiast who enjoyed spending time listening to and interacting with people from around the world. He was also interested in local geology and history. He often went out combing the backwoods for undiscovered Indian artifacts, caverns, or geological finds.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Judy (Patrick) Thacker; and his brother, Vernon Thacker.
His is survived by his children, Chris (Kathryn) Thacker and Jondalynne (Victor) Barrera; his grandchildren, Gage, Bryson, Michael, Madison, Katie, Onelys, Alex, and Victor Jr.; his siblings, Bonne Rosnick, Barbara Burford, and Larry Thacker. John also left behind many nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom he loved dearly.
On November 2, 2021, a private interment service was held at his final resting place in the Last Supper section at Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro, Kentucky.
