James Steve Earle

James Steve Earle, age 81, of Middlesboro, KY, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. Steve was born to the late James and Clara (Smith) Earle in Middlesboro, Kentucky on March 26, 1941.

He and his wife Phyllis were married in 1966, residing in Middlesboro, Kentucky, together they had one son, the late Mark Earle.

Steve enjoyed his early years singing country music, even making an appearance on the Cas Walker show. Later he enjoyed singing gospel music with his band The Christianaires and at his home church, Miller’s Chapel. Steve spent his days in Carpentry work, building homes around the area, including his own. He enjoyed listening to music, specifically the good stuff, classic country music. Steve was a Kentucky basketball and football fan and made sure to share that passion with his son and grandchildren. He loved being a papaw, spending time with friends and family, going to church, and a good card game of solitaire or rummy.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, James and Clara (Smith) Earle; son, Mark Earle; brother, Clyde “Mutt” Earle; sisters, Joyce Ann Partin and Sarah Conatser; and brother, Roy Eugene Earle.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ann Earle of 56 years; grandson, Ty Earle and wife Sidney; granddaughter, Kateland Hatley and husband Jared; great-grandson, Jackson Earle; brother, Joe Earle and wife Betty;  sister, Judy Collins; brother, Troy Earle and wife Virginia; along with a host of relatives and friends.

The family of James Steve Earle will receive friends on Sunday, March 26, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., at the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Bob Terry presiding. Music will be provided by the Terry family.

Graveside services will immediately follow at the Yeary Cemetery in Middlesboro, KY.
