Charles "Ray" Rains

Middlesboro, Kentucky

Charles “Ray” Rains, age 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 20, 2023. Ray was born June 14th, 1937 in Middlesboro, Kentucky. He was proud owner and operator of Ray Rains Excavating and worked alongside his son for over 20 years.  He also enjoyed running and tending to his farm, as well as training and showing horses and restoring old tractors and vehicles.  Ray delighted in hosting his family and loved ones at his home and taking them for rides in his golf cart around the farm to feed his horses and fish.  His loving wife and dog, Dexter, were his daily and favorite passengers.  He was saved and baptized at Dunlap Missionary Baptist Church where he was a lifelong member.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Bessie Marsee Rains, son Stacy Ray Rains, sisters Ruby Money, Wilmae Sulfridge, and Margie Jones, brothers Dan and Ben Rains, as well as nieces Lisa Lay and Elizabeth Ann Rains.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Mary Lou Rains, daughter Marcie Rains (Hugh) Partin, grandchildren Jessica Rae (Dustin) Hickman, Lauren Michelle Leigh (Dakota) Robertson, Stephen Austin Rains Dixon, Rachel Megan Rains, Miranda “Mandy” Morgan Rains, and Johnathan (Jessica) Rains, great-grandchildren Joshua Dylan Herron, Jozelyn Allie Inman, Jace Ray Rains, Everly Kay Robertson and Marianne Marcee Hickman.

Also left to mourn his passing are special nieces Brenda (Arlis) Turner, Kaye (Ed) Tschuor, and Sandy (Bill) Carver, special nephews Dusty (Sharon) Jones and Bennie Lee Rains, special friends Johnny Bowling and Delbert King, as well as a host of additional nieces, nephews, and friends.

A graveside service will be held at Green Hills Memorial Gardens at the mausoleum at 2:00pm on Friday, March 24th, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Dunlap Missionary Baptist Church in Middlesboro, Kentucky.
