Charles Eugene “Gene” McMurray went to be with the Lord on September 19, 2021 while surrounded by his loving family. Gene was born in Middlesboro, KY on March 24, 1947 and professed his faith in Christ at an early age. Gene was a member at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his loving parents Arnold McMurray and Juanita Collins McMurray, sister Barbara Johns Capps, Brother-in-law Rufus Cook and Nephews Lee Graves and Adrian Witherspoon.
Gene had several occupations during his life, explosives and distillery operator being his most prominent and favorite positions. To know Gene was to love him!!
Gene is survived by his beloved baby sister, Verdie McMurray Cook who will miss him dearly. Nieces: Michelle Graves, Angie Newman, Jackie (David) Massengill, Melissa Witherspoon (Jonathan Price), Kelly (Bobby) Butler and a special nephew Jason (Maryanna) Capps, along with a host of great and great great nieces and nephews that will cherish the memories of “Uncle Gene” and many more family and friends.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 21, 2021 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Cawood Funeral Home, Middlesboro, KY. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 11:00am in the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Cosby officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens.
