Mr. Charles "Monk" Green age 88, Pineville, KY, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Middlesboro ARH.  Born on a Wednesday, July 26, 1933, to the Late George & Myrtle Wilder Green, the youngest of nine (9) children at the old Hances Creek homeplace, Calvin, KY.  Monk's grandfather D. Columbus "Lum" Green, moved to Bell County, KY, when the county still had its original name, "Josh Bell" County, circa 1868.

Monk was a public servant for over 32 years. Starting as Sheriff of Bell County in 1969 & later elected Circuit Court Clerk in 1982 until his retirement in 2006. Thousands and Thousands of cups of coffee were poured over the years in his office as people "went to see Monk." He built unique lifelong relationships with other community leaders, colleagues, governors, representatives, and senators.

Monk's sense of humor will never be forgotten. He claimed his "autograph" was "valuable," but only because it was affixed to every driver's license issued while he was Circuit Clerk. An inside joke between Monk & Mike Bowling was they were so popular KY actually named a city after them, Bowling Green. Satire, of course, but a great conversation starter nonetheless. When Monk's grandchildren were younger, he frequently handed them candy, coins, or a dollar. However, his favorite was telling them, "hold out your hand; Papaw has something for you," this is when they were surprised with some of his used chewing tobacco, he found it hilarious.

There is no doubt of the many accomplishments he was the proudest of his family.

Monk’s family would like to extend a very sincere THANK YOU to Dr. Kaw and the staff of the 1st floor at Middlesboro ARH.  Their love and understanding of  his broken heart over their mother was overwhelming!
