Ancel Patterson, age 81, of Middlesboro, KY passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2020. As the sun was shining and the world was busy, the Lord came down and said its time to come home with me. He passed with his brother Eli holding him in his arms and his sister Bernice by his side at his residence. He was born in Middlesboro, KY on March 15, 1939, the son of the late Eli and Maggie Patterson.
He was a retired coal miner and enjoyed keeping busy by being security at coal mining operations. His passion was singing country music and playing his guitar. He would say, “I’m going to go put on a show.” Later in life, he would say, “I’m going to sit back and watch the show.”
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Georgia Patterson; son-in-law, Dale Smith; brothers, James (Buddy) Patterson, Dester Patterson, and Leonard Patterson; sisters, Evelyn Patterson, Magdalene Mayes and Retha Partin and an infant son: Stevie Patterson.
He is survived by his children: David (Cindy) Patterson, Lisa Smith, all of Middlesboro, KY and Debbie (Johnny) Patterson of Ewing, VA.
Brother: Eli (Junior) Patterson of Middlesboro, KY
Sisters: Bernice (Earl) Gilbert and Opal (Bill) Inman, all of Middlesboro, KY
Grandchildren: Jeremy (Elizabeth) Patterson of Ewing, VA, Wesley (Kim) Patterson of Harrogate, TN, Whitney Patterson (Brad Fisher) of Middlesboro, KY, Jody Brock of Middlesboro, KY and Sheena Smith (Cody Noah) of Tazewell, TN.
Great-Grandchildren: Logan Patterson, Kaitlyn Patterson, Caiden Patterson, Jasper Patterson, Destiny Brock, Teagan Thayer and Otis Noah.
And a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. David King presiding. Music will be provided by Chris and Katie Stotts. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jeremy Patterson and Wesley Patterson, his great-grandson, Logan Patterson, and family and friends.
Interment will immediately follow the Funeral service at the Capito Cemetery in Middlesboro, KY where he will be laid to rest beside his precious wife.
