Roger Dale Thomas, age 68, born and raised in Middlesboro, KY, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in the comfort of his home, leaving behind a lifetime of precious memories and a legacy of faith, kindness, and unconditional love.

Born on April 19, 1958, Roger was a man whose life was defined by his unwavering faith in God, his unconditional love for his family, and his kind and humble spirit. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a friend to many. To know Roger was to know a man with a beautiful smile, an unforgettable laugh, and a heart that always had room for others.

Roger spent his younger years working at Middlesboro Tanning Company and Duraline, where he demonstrated the hardworking nature and dedication that followed him throughout his life. Outside of work, Roger found joy in life’s simple blessings. He loved spending time outdoors, riding four-wheelers, fishing, and enjoying basketball. However, nothing brought him greater happiness than being surrounded by his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. His family was his greatest earthly treasure, and the love he had for them was immeasurable.

Roger was the kind of man who would gladly give someone the shirt off his back. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand to someone in need, expecting nothing in return. His kindness, humility, sense of humor, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Whether through his contagious laughter, his warm smile, or the quiet ways he showed his love, Roger had a special gift for making those around him feel valued.

Above all else, Roger loved the Lord with all his heart. Having accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and been baptized as a young boy, Roger carried his faith with him throughout his entire life. His love for Jesus was not simply something he spoke about; it was something he lived. Even through life’s greatest hardships, physical suffering, and difficult days, his faith remained steadfast. He held tightly to the promises of God, trusting in the Lord until his very last breath.

Although Roger endured much suffering during his earthly journey, his family finds peace in knowing that his pain and struggles are now over. The body that once grew tired and weary has been made new. The suffering he endured has been replaced with everlasting peace, and the faith he held so dearly has become sight.

What a beautiful homecoming Heaven must have been.

Roger was preceded in death by his loving parents, Jakie Thomas and Minnie Thomas; his brothers, Jerry Thomas, Danny Thomas, and David Thomas; his sister, Kathy Lawson; his father-in-law and dear friend, Larry Overton; his mother-in-law, Lillian Overton; and his precious grandbaby, Remi.

His family takes comfort in imagining the joyous reunion as Roger was welcomed into Heaven by his beloved parents, Jakie and Minnie Thomas; his brothers and sisters; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lillian and Larry Overton.

Among those reunions was one especially dear to his heart: his beloved father-in-law, Larry, who was so much more than family. Larry was Roger’s very best friend. Their bond was one of true friendship, love, and companionship, and the thought of those two being reunited brings a special comfort to the hearts of those who knew them. One can only imagine the smiles, the laughter, and the joy of two best friends finally being together again, never to be separated.

And perhaps one of the most beautiful parts of Roger’s heavenly homecoming is the thought of him finally meeting his precious grandbaby, Remi, who was lost through miscarriage before the family could welcome this little one into the world. Though Roger never had the opportunity to hold Remi here on earth, his family finds comfort in imagining that precious first embrace in Heaven. A grandfather finally holding the grandbaby he never got to meet, surrounded by the perfect love and peace of Jesus Christ.

What a glorious thought it is that the arms which once grew weary from earthly suffering can now hold that precious grandchild, and the man who endured so much pain can finally experience a joy beyond anything this world could offer.

He leaves behind to cherish his precious memory his beloved wife of 35 years, Lynn Overton Thomas; his daughters, Crystal (Cody) Davis and Felicity Thomas; and his two treasured grandchildren, Liam Davis and Riverlynn Davis, who brought an abundance of joy, laughter, and love into his life. He is also survived by a host of brothers, sisters, extended family members, special brother-in-law Lewis Dixon, who was as close as a brother, and many dear friends.

While his family will deeply miss his beautiful smile, the sound of his laughter, his warm presence, and the countless memories made together, they take comfort in knowing that this goodbye is not forever. Roger’s legacy will continue through the family he loved so deeply, the kindness he showed so freely, and the faith he demonstrated so faithfully.

Roger will be remembered not for the hardships he endured, but for the love he gave, the lives he touched, and the Lord he served. His earthly suffering has ended, his heavenly healing is complete, and his eternal life has just begun.

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

Until we meet again, your beautiful smile, your laughter, and your love will forever remain in our hearts. We’re still learning how to lose you, but you’re learning how to live. Rest peacefully in the arms of Jesus, Roger. You are finally home.
