Lucy Boatright Bailey, age 94, of Ewing, VA, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the Claiborne Health and Rehabilitation Center, Tazewell, TN, surrounded by her family. She was born July 12, 1930, in Brownies Creek, KY, to the late Starling and Rosa Parker Boatright.
Lucy loved to farm, garden and can vegetables, fruits, jams and jellies. She enjoyed sewing and was great at making quilts. She was also an excellent cook.
Her children and grandchildren were the greatest joys of her life. She was a member of the Cannon Creek Primitive Baptist Church, which she loved and attended as long as she was able.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Hobert Bailey; one son, Glenn Bailey; seven sisters, Carrie, Gracie, Lindy, Dora, Lillie, Roxie and Rosie; one brother, William “Bill Boy” Boatright; and her son-in-law, Carl Wilder.
She is survived by five sons, Harold (Linda) Bailey, Steve (Tammy) Bailey, Lester (Linda) Bailey, Carl (Tammy) Bailey, all of Ewing, VA, and C.F. (Sheila) Bailey of Tazewell, TN; five daughters, Lorine Wilder, Alene (Charles) Chadwell, Pauline (Charlie) Brooking, all of Ewing, VA, Rosie (Mike) Crockett of Harrogate, TN, and Sally (Shawn) Sexton of Jonesville, VA; twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Covenant Health and Rehab, Suncrest Hospice, and special friends, Erika Wilson and Sandy Cosby.
The family of Lucy Boatright Bailey will receive friends on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel in Middlesboro, KY. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Elder Steve Greene and Elder Ricky Dorton presiding. Music will be provided by the Cannon Creek Primitive Baptist Church singers.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Old Bailey Cemetery in Ewing, VA.
Her sons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Cleston Pittman and Noel Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to her church, Cannon Creek Primitive Baptist, c/co Rosie B. Crockett, 2516 Forge Ridge Road, Harrogate, TN 37752.
