Lonnie Eugene Barton, age 86, passed into eternal life on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at the Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital in Middlesboro, Kentucky. He was born August 12, 1935, in Middlesboro, KY, the son of the late William and Minnie Mae Loop Barton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Robert Barton and wife Dessie, Curtis Barton and wife Azalee, William Barton, Jr. and wife Olivia, and George Barton and wife Ruth; sisters, Sallie Wilson, Beedie Barton Roberts, Hallie Barton Williams and husband Deboyce, Mossie Estes and husband Ed, and Little Nancy Barton.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Delores Hicks Barton of Middlesboro, KY
Sister, Nellie Barton Poore of Middlesboro, KY (late husband Rev. Bill Poore)
Brother-in-law, Earl “Logger” Roberts of Middlesboro, KY
Son, Lonnie Keith Barton and wife Sharon of Middlesboro, KY
Daughter, Lisa Barton Johnson and husband Danny of Middlesboro, KY
Grandsons, Trevor Barton and wife Allison of London, KY, Brent Barton of Middlesboro, KY, and Caleb Johnson and wife Kayla of Knoxville, TN
Granddaughter, Katelynn Johnson Huckaby and husband Trevor of Lafollette, TN
Great-grandsons, Isaac Barton of Corbin KY, and Shepherd and Greyson Barton of London, KY
Great-granddaughters, Kylie Barton of Corbin, KY, and Maddie and Lillie Johnson of Knoxville, TN
And a loving number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lonnie enjoyed more than 20 years of retirement after a long and fruitful career in the paving industry. He enjoyed a life full of hobbies including coon hunting, squirrel hunting, crappie and walleye fishing, bluegrass and gospel music, and dirt track racing. He also enjoyed telling stories that were always filled with laughter about family history and road construction. Lonnie loved his family to the fullest especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his family big, and his love for people was unfathomable and apparent to everyone he met.
He was a member of the Meldrum Missionary Baptist Church for 64 years, where he was saved, baptized, and served as a deacon for 19 years. Lonnie especially enjoyed and loved singing in the choir every Sunday.
The family of Lonnie Eugene Barton will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, December 3, 2021, at the Meldrum Missionary Baptist Church in Middlesboro, KY.
Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m., with Rev. Richard Barnett and Rev. Rondal Daniels and family presiding. Music will be provided by the Meldrum Missionary Baptist Church Choir and the Barton Trio.
Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 4, 2021, in the Yellow Hill Cemetery in Middlesboro, KY.
Pallbearers will be a large host of his nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be his fellow deacons.
