Joseph Thomas Wakin

Joseph Thomas Wakin, age 68, of Middlesboro, KY, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025. He was born in Middlesboro, KY, on June 13, 1956, to the late Thomas and Barbara Gower Wakin.

Joe loved to garden and took great pride in his ability to produce a beautiful garden of vegetables and herbs and always shared the “fruits of his labor” with others. He loved being outdoors and was looking forward to his newest adventures, raising chickens and adding cantaloupe to his garden this year. He was a great cook and loved to feed people, especially on the outdoor grill. Joe was an avid Kentucky football and basketball fan with no ability to “contain himself” while watching the games.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Lisa Wakin Hunley.

He leaves behind his sweet children, Joshua Thomas Wakin and Edith Joanna Wakin, of whom he was very proud. He also leaves behind his siblings, Debbie (Michael) Leach, Globe AZ, Mark (Teresa) Wakin, Middlesboro, KY, Tom (Delores) Wakin, Tampa, FL, and Monica (Terry) Poore of Middleboro, KY. Joe also had a host of amazing nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews from California to New York.

The family of Joe Wakin will receive friends on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, at Saint Julian Parish Hall from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45. a.m. If weather permits, we may gather outside in memory of Joe’s profound love for the sunlight (all who knew him - know exactly what I’m talking about)! A funeral mass will follow at Saint Julian Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with Father Prashanth Lobo, Celebrant.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to Saint Julian Catholic Church Bereavement Committee.
