John Dickie Bailey, age 62, of Ewing Virginia passed away April 5, 2019 in the comfort of his own home. On this day he left his earthly life and went to meet the Lord. He was born October 20, 1956 to the late Shultz and Cornia Bailey of Ewing, Va.
Dickie is a man who was loved by many and always there to those in need. He was a husband, father, brother, son, cousin, and a friend to many. During his life he worked years in the mines and also helped pour many of the bridges and foundations in Middlesboro and Pineville through Bell Concrete. Most recently, he retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) with 15 years of service. He was also an EMT with the local Thomas Walker volunteer rescue squad, served 20 years on the Soil and Water Conservation board of directors and became a Master Mason being a Senior Warden at Martin Station Lodge in Rose Hill, Va. In the last years of his life he was working to maintain the family farm. He was also a member of Bethany Christian Church. With each endeavor he worked to the best of his ability for the company, his family, and his coworkers. He loved helping others and having a purpose. You could often find him taking a friend to the hospital, helping out someone in need, or spending some time with his grandkids. This is what he will be remembered for.
He is leaving behind many, many loved ones: wife, Betty Bailey; son Aaron Bailey; daughter, Lauren Pridemore; son-in-law Patrick Pridemore; sister, Brenda Bailey; sister, Lynn Metcalfe. Grandchildren: Allison, Ivy, and Levi Pridemore. He will also be greatly missed by his close friend Todd Catron and a whole slew of cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends and family from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 with the funeral to follow at 7:00 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Long presiding, all at the Creech Funeral Home Chapel in Middlesboro, KY. Pallbearers will be: Donnie MacAfee, Patrick Pridemore, Todd Catron, Austin Brooks, Thomas Pridemore, and Aaron Bailey. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the Bailey Cemetery beside his home in Baileytown.
