James Alva Brady, age 74, of Middlesboro, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 7th, 2026.

Born on January 15th, 1952, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, to the late Alva and Mary Magdaline Brady. James was preceded in death by his wife Vicky Calloway Brady, daughter Alva Jolene “Jodi” Brady and sister Sharon Brady Dyer.

James is survived by his son, James Ray (Cindy) Brady; grandchildren, Chris (Evelyn) Lowe, Keith (Kelsey) Lowe, Anastasia Brady and Ryan Brady; great-grandchildren, Charlie Plociennik Lowe, Tatum Lowe, Emersyn Lowe, and Noah Lowe; his sister Carolyn Brady.

James Brady, affectionately known as “Pap” by those who loved him most, was the heart of his family. A hardworking man who spent his career as a diesel mechanic, he believed in providing for the people he loved. He worked hard, but he loved even harder, and nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether he was gathered around the grill cooking for everyone, cheering on Big Blue Nation, or enjoying what he proudly called a “cold Bud Light,” the best moments were simply the ones spent surrounded by family.

Known to many as “Shady Brady,” Pap was someone people looked up to. He led by example through his work ethic, quiet strength, and unwavering love for his family. To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he wasn’t just a grandfather—he was a role model, a steady presence, and someone whose advice and reassurance could make any difficult day a little easier.

While his family will forever feel the weight of his absence, they will also carry with them the words he so often shared whenever life became difficult: “It’ll be alright.” Those simple words became a promise of hope and comfort, and they remain a source of strength today. Though he will be deeply missed every day, his family finds peace in knowing his legacy lives on through the values he instilled, the memories he created, and the love he gave. They look forward to the day they will see their beloved Pap again.
