Harold Maiden, age 93, of Frakes, KY, passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2026.  He would have been 94 yrs old on August 2, 2026, and was raised by Mammy and Pa Maiden, his grandparents in Frakes, KY. He went to the church that was next door to his home. He loved to tell the stories of how he helped move the cattle around the mountains of Frakes and would drive the egg truck as he got older. He played high school basketball and had many fond memories of playing basketball with his friends. After he completed high school, he attended college for a time, then was called to serve with the US Army in the Korean War.

He was married in Ohio and had 2 sons, Steve and Jeff, where he owned a gas station and then later owned an auto parts store with his brother-in-law. As his life changed, he moved to Daytona Beach, FL where he met his current wife Carma Maiden and became a blended family of 5 including Shelly, Billy, and Jeff.

Harold managed an Auto Parts store and loved when he got tickets to the Daytona 500. One year he got to meet Richard Petty! He started gardening and would include teaching his grandchildren how to make a garden, making fertilizer & keeping the car washed. He loved Christmas and always made sure to decorate the tree with interesting ornaments that would fascinate the grandchildren.

Upon retiring 25 yrs ago, he and Carma moved back to Frakes to join his friends to going 4 wheeling through the mountains, attend high school reunions and family reunions which brought much joy and fun to all who participated. Remembering all the stories brought much laughter to all for many more years!

He loved being a KY Wildcat basketball & college football fan, enjoyed reading historical journals about Kentucky, and enjoyed looking up information about the birds you could hear singing while sitting outside.

He loved sitting out on his porch to feed the birds and they would often fly up to him to get the seeds directly from him. Hummingbird feeders were always out. He loved all animals and loved when the deer would cross the yard between the ridges and eat from his apple trees.

He was always so happy to attend church, worshipping and assisting the men with leading the prayers. Eventually he was asked to join the choir and then to lead the singing. He was once asked what his favorite hymn was and he immediately replied “All of them!” He loved that he lived around the corner from the church as he could hear the church bell ring on the days he wasn’t able to attend. He was so happy watching the church grow with younger families and their children as he wanted others to experience the joy of coming to church as he did when he was growing up.

Brian, his oldest grandson, inherited his Pappy’s love of fast cars and tinkering. Pappy loved when Brian was visiting with him, listening to his stories of growing up in KY, helping him to clean and fix things around the house as needed.

Harold was a kind person who always loved a good visit sharing laughter and positive thoughts. He will be missed deeply by his family and his remaining friends who were blessed to know him.

He is survived by his wife Carma Maiden, his 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
