Betty Jean Barnett

Betty Jean Barnett, age 82, of Tazewell, TN, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Middlesboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, Middlesboro, KY, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Middlesboro, KY, on November 27, 1942, to the late Floyd Cupp and Bernice Miracle Cupp England.

Betty was a kind, outgoing soul who never met a stranger. Her family was her greatest joy and her love for them was unwavering. "Pap" said it best, "There's not enough pages in a notebook to write all the good about her." She was a jewel. She will be missed so much.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her grandmother, "Momma", Elizabeth Marsee, and special friend, Dovie Rose, her fishing buddy.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 64 years, Colin Barnett; children, Tika McGinnis (Layne) of Washburn, TN, Darin Barnett (Judy) of Middlesboro, KY, Todd Barnett of Tazewell, TN, and Tia (Dr. Richard) Barnett of Cumberland Gap, TN; grandchildren, Chad Shackleford, Seth Barnett, Miranda Barnett, Erika Barnett (Justin) , Joshua (Ashten) Barnett, Hannah Barnett, Kohl Barnett, Tyler Barnett, Zach Barnett, Sarah Barnett, and Allyson (Hayden) Burnside; sixteen great-grandchildren and special friend, Judy Brooksher, who was like a sister to her.

The family of Betty Jean Barnett will receive friends on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel, Middlesboro, KY. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Richard Barnett and Rev. Bruce Leaman presiding. Music will be provided by Teresa Saylor and Neville Ann Barton.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the MARH nursing staff, Middlesboro Nursing and Healthcare Facility, and special friend and caregiver, Donnie Rose, for their wonderful care of Betty.
